Welcome to "Hutch"

While Hutchinson has the welcoming vibe of a small town, it's actually the largest city in Reno County, with about 42,000 residents. It was founded all the way back in 1871 and has been the location of salt mines since 1887, earning it the nickname, "Salt City." Residents, though, fondly call it "Hutch." Hutchinson is home to plenty of attractions and annual events like the Kansas State Fair. If you're visiting, here are some things you can see:

Strataca: Kansas Underground Salt Museum

Remember, Hutchinson is called "Salt City!" This museum gives you the opportunity to explore old salt mines that haven't been mined since the 1950s. An underground exploration is the perfect outing for the whole family!

Cosmosphere

If you're looking to do some space exploration here on Earth, check out the Cosmosphere International Science Education Center & Space Museum. This destination is home to tons of space artifacts, including rockets built during World War II and the Odyssey, the Apollo 13 command module.

Hedrick Exotic Animal Farm

Have you ever wanted to ride a camel? Feed a giraffe? This farm is the place to do it! You can visit all of the animals when the farm is open and schedule pony rides and camel rides through a reservation system. The grounds also have a bed and breakfast, making it a perfect place to stay when you visit.

Dillon Nature Center

To experience the true beauty of Hutchinson, head over to the Dillon Nature Center. Guided tours are available, or you can just enjoy exploring the National Recreation Trails on your own. The Taylor Shady Lane Cabin hosts special events and classes that are all nature-focused.
